What Is Prop 65?
Prop 65 would take funds generated by the sale of grocery and retail carry-out bags and transfer them to a fund administered by the Wildlife Conservation Board.
Who Supports Prop 65?
Key supporters of Prop 65 include: Thomas Hudson, California Taxpayer Protection Committee executive director; and Deborah Howard, California Senior Advocates League executive director.
Supporters argue that the proposition would ensure that revenue generated by the plastic bag fee benefits projects to improve the environment (such as drought relief and litter removal), rather than serving as additional profits to retail stores.
Who Opposes Prop 65?
Key opponents of Prop 65 include: Mark Murray, Californians Against Waste executive director.
Opponents argue that the proposition creates a distraction by focusing on the funds from plastic bag fees rather than eliminating plastic bags entirely, which is what is necessary in order to make a true impact on the environment.
