What Is Prop L?
Prop L would increase the authority of the Board of Supervisors over the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA).
The details:
- Currently, the Mayor appoints all seven members of the SFMTA Board of Directors, who are all subject to approval by the Board of Supervisors.
- Under Prop L, the Mayor would appoint just four members, subject to approval by the Board of Supervisors. The remaining three members would be appointed by the Board of Supervisors.
- Reduce from seven to six, the number of votes required for the Board of Supervisors to reject the SFMTA’s proposed budget.
Who Supports Prop L?
Key supporters of Proposition L include: Supervisors David Campos, Jane Kim, Norman Yee, and Aaron Peskin.
Supporters argue that Prop L would create a better balance of authority over SFMTA between the Mayor’s Office and Board of Supervisors, leading to increased oversight and accountability.
Who Opposes Prop L?
Key opponents of Prop L include: Supervisor Scott Wiener.
Opponents argue that Prop L is unnecessary, as the Board of Supervisors already has ample input on SFMTA appointments and budget.
