Can I use my Clipper Card on the San Francisco cable cars?
You can only use your Clipper Card on the cable cars if you are a monthly pass holder. Card readers on cable cars are only able to detect whether you have a monthly pass and cannot read the value on your card. If you just ordered your Clipper Card online or by phone and have yet to touch your card to a MUNI vehicle sensor, you will have to pay cash to ride the cable car. The hand held card readers which the cable card operators use are not able to load your pass with your added value.
