Do owner-occupied TICs where no units are being rented need to register for a San Francisco Business Registration Certificate?
No, San Francisco owner-occupied TICs where no units are being rented are not required to register for a San Francisco Business Registration Certificate.
If you get a notice that you need to register, respond to the notice and indicate on your letter that the building is a TIC and you do not get rental income from it. You need to include the names of the owners of all of the units and return it to the Office of the Treasurer & Tax Collector at City Hall – Room 140, 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Pl., San Francisco, CA 94102.
