How did the Mission district get its name?
The Mission district was named after the Mission San Francisco de Asis – founded by the Spanish in 1776. This mission is the oldest structure in San Francisco, and was sixth in the chain of missions built in California. The Mission San Francisco de Asis is located in the Mission district neighborhood.
