Pavement to Parks to Economic Progress for San Francisco
One of the coolest new programs in San Francisco could be coming to your neighborhood – but only if san-francisco-parkletsyour community group or local merchants apply soon.
You might have seen some of the new parklets springing up around San Francisco – the mini parks that turn pavement into attractive green spaces. This is Resetting in action on so many levels – more walkable streets, more vibrant San Francisco commercial corridors and the delightful progress of turning pavement into parks.
The parks are created in partnership with a local merchant’s association or non-profit associations, who agree to pay a small cost for the installation and then to maintain them. Merchant groups and Community Benefit Districts have already reported that these parks help drive foot traffic and retail sales – which means more tax revenue for the city. So these small government investments are bringing multiple long-term benefits.
