How do I visit Alcatraz?
To get to Alcatraz you need to take a ferry from San Francisco’s Pier 33. The ferry ride takes about 20 minutes. You can book ferry tickets online or by visiting the tour booth at Pier 33. Since Alcatraz is one of San Francisco’s most popular attractions tours sell out quickly, so you should book in advance.
Once at Alcatraz you will need to walk up a slight hill. There is a free shuttle for visitors with disabilities. There are self-guided audio tours of Alcatraz. Part of the year night-time tours of Alcatraz are also available.
